Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas has become a cult classic. The story actually originated from a poem Burton wrote in 1982 while working as an animator for Disney. Over the course of the following years Burton thought about developing The Nightmare Before Christmas as a short film or TV special. Finally, in 1990, he struck a deal with Disney to develop the movie and started production the following year.
The Nightmare Before Christmas was originally released under their Touchstone Pictures banner since they thought the movie would be “too dark, and scary for kids.” However, after achieving overwhelming critical and financial success, the movie has since been reissued by Walt Disney Pictures.
